408 dogs enjoyed a pool party at the Sumner County YMCA

On Saturday, September 10, Nashville Paw magazine and the Sumner County YMCA hosted the 6th annual CANINE SUMMER SPLASH, where 408 dogs swam, splashed and played off-leash in the fully-fenced outdoor pool area.

It was our biggest pool party to date, welcoming 79 more dogs than last year! At our first session, 54 little dogs kicked off the event. 209 large breed dogs took over the second session, while our final all-size dog swim welcomed 145 pooch pals. An estimated 700-800 humans also enjoyed the water, along with hot dogs and veggie dogs from the Daddy's Dogs cart and yummy rolls from the Banh Mi & Roll Factory food truck.

It was a successful pet adoption day for two of the pups with Jojo's Dog House rescue, whose pups enjoyed some pool time of their own. Guests also browsed vendor booths including Pet Wants, Tennessee Veterinary Dentistry, Invisible Fence of Middle TN, VIP Petcare and WJ Photography. Meanwhile, Nashville Veterinary Specialists staffed a pet first aid tent "just in case".

We offer our thanks to Marlene Hilligoss, Aquatics Director, and to the entire team at the Sumner County YMCA for once again allowing local pups to take over the pool for the day! They work very hard during and after this event (it takes a lot to get that pool clean!) and we truly appreciate their efforts in accommodating this fun event. We are proud to be cutting them a donation check of over $3,500 to support their nonprofit "Learn to Swim" program for children!

We also want to thank all of the volunteers who made this day possible. We all work incredibly hard for many hours in the heat to make this event as successful as possible each year, and it simply would not be possible without the help of our volunteers! Many thanks to Patricia Gartland, Christyna Hall, Kristen and Dawson Hendrickson, Christa Krasneck, Michele and Roger Lee for their incredible efforts!

Finally, thanks to all of the vendors and guests who made this day a success for the dogs and for a great cause. We had a blast watching all of your pup pals have fun, and we can't wait to do it again next year!

In the meanwhile, enjoy some photos from the event:
