If you love dogs and food as much as I do, and if you live in or ever venture out the way of the 'Boro, then you'll be happy to know there are no shortage of pooch-friendly dining patios to enjoy with your furry best friend.

The Square in downtown Murfreesboro is a quaint little historical area with a plethora of unique shops and restaurants. The streets are elegantly lined with lampposts and potted flowers. benches line the sidewalks, providing plenty of spots for resting, people-watching and soaking in the sun. It's also a great way to meet other dogs and their people who are out and about.

Visiting The Greenery on the Square, I met shop owner Judy Goldie and Sara Claeys who were very excited about their recent approval for outdoor seating. Goldie says they put a water bowl next to the table to show their pet-friendliness and as an invitation to customers walking their dogs.

“Both of us are dog lovers, we wanted to create a place where people who are out for a walk aren’t limited because they have a pet,” says Claeys.

The storefront boasts a fabulous urban market and boutique. Upon entering, my eyes were immediately drawn to the beautiful brick walls. Although the walls were previously plastered and dry walled, the current owners say they decided to have the original walls restored, which really ties in the organic, peaceful and inviting ambiance of the shop.

The store is very eclectic; they offer everything from organic groceries and produce to Sarah Claeys’ fresh “Health Nut” sandwiches and salads. This is a great place to pick up a healthy snack or lunch while doing the rounds with your four-legged friend.

They also feature a variety of fun pet items, local art, pottery, furniture and other goods.

Goldie is also the owner of the two shops next to The Greenery: Bella’s Boutique and Trendy Pieces. Although they are clothing stores, they put on a yearly fashion show that helps support Murfreesboro’s Beesley Spay-Neuter Clinic. I was very pleased to see a local business reaching out and embracing animal welfare!

PJs Pizza is another great spot that welcomes our pet pals. Owner David Parcha says he has customers order and sit on the patio with their dogs very frequently.

“We have a lot of customers come in and order and sit on the patio with their dogs,” Parcha says.

Looking for some southern flavor? Try Maple Street Grill which offers homestyle cooking, which also offers a pet-friendly outdoor patio.

In addition to the square, you'll find some other pet-friendly places along West Main Street, including 3 Brothers Deli and Brewhouse.

The Square in Historic Downtown Murfreesboro is the prime destination for an intimate doggie’s day out. Come out and see some friendly faces and satisfy your hunger with some original tastes!
